Behind schedule on getting this action-items post written and published. Working on it July 4, 2015, while the rain pours outside. Using my journal notes from the relevant days to remind me of what I did each day.
As with last week, this update encompasses more than the Birmingham Shines podcast creation, distribution and promotion.

I started the morning thinking about how to do a better job of focusing and conveying the value-proposition behind each part of the Shinecast® brand.
Spent some time on the Shine vision and values statement and mind-mapping how to present that in a business context. Not changing my values, but rather how to convey the message authentically to a business audience
Spent about an hour finishing up a Pinterest graphic for Shinecast business page using InDesign.
Spent another hour comparing Fresh Member software with Rainmaker platform. I’ve been a paying customer of the Rainmaker platform since the beta launch in 2014 and I experimented with it briefly months ago.
Rainmaker seems to have a lot of promise, but what I found in my June review of comments Rainmaker user forum is that some people love it, a few people seem to struggle with bugs. Probably a combination of user-error and an evolving technology. My own experiment in 2014 was that it wasn’t ready for my use at that time–I found it easier to just use WordPress and plugins. But I haven’t actually experimented with Rainmaker since then.
I have purchased Fresh Member, but it is a stand-alone product that hosts membership and learning separate from the actual WordPress installation.
I also spent some time brainstorming and diagramming how the Ignite Alabama podcast relates to the business community, courses, and curated content I’m developing for another piece of the Shinecast business. Considered how these could be delivered through either Rainmaker and/or Fresh Member or some combination of the two, depending on the target audience.
Brainstormed membership levels, which I’d previously outlined back in May and early June.

Spent about two hours writing, formatting and publishing a post on ShereeMartin.com related to doubt, fear, faith, action and more. I’m not immune from fear and doubt, but I do seek to push beyond and let go.
Reviewed the audio files of Episode 10 for Birmingham Shines, wrote copy for my intro and outro, created editing script, recorded intro and outro, uploaded files to Dropbox, created job on Elance, posted and invited both editors I’ve worked with to bid on the job.
Reviewed the typed transcript for episode 6 and released the escrow funds for that job.
Awarded the editing job for Episode 10.
Created simple script/ouline for the intro to episode 1 of Ignite Alabama, recorded and added files to Dropbox folder. Selected theme music for the show, based on prior royalty-free music purchased on neosounds.
Saw a tweet from al.com about promoting an audio journalism project, so I wrote and recorded a plug for that and submitted to the editor to include at the beginning of Episode 10.
Reviewed voice tags for Ignite Alabama (I’d commissioned those previously from a voiceover pro on Elance) and selected the one I wanted to use for show intro and outro.
Recorded my intro and outro for episode 1 of Ignite Alabama, added files to Dropbox, created job on Elance for editing this episode.
Previewed the edited version of episode 10 of Birmingham Shines. Some problems with audio levels and quality. Messaged for revisions. And awarded the Ignite Alabama job to same editor.
Sent emails to two show guests updating on the status of their interviews and when they would be on the show.

Continued to review edited/revised version of episode 10. Found more problems. 4th version was finally clean and good.
Did a bit of piddling in Elance looking for possible administrative assistant and graphic assistant person I might afford who would also be located nearby.
Previewed the edited first episode of Ignite Alabama. No problems with it.
Sent three emails related to guests on Birmingham Shines and/or Ignite Alabama. Included the appearance release form and pre-survey link. Also emailed previous guest about Appearance Release that I had not received.
Published the Storify of tweets from Y’all Connect that I’d previously created and also published as a blog post with the Storify embedded on my website.
Reviewed the original raw audio files from interview with guest for episode 11 of Birmingham Shines, which will also be episode 2 of Ignite Alabama.
Sent 3 emails relating to interview invitations.

Created episode cover art for episode 10 of Birmingham Shines while having morning coffee. This art is for the website “project” and ID3 tagging.
Wrote and recorded intro and outro for episode 2 of Ignite Alabama and added to Dropbox with other files.
Wrote and recorded Ignite Alabama preview/explainer episode and uploaded to Dropbox. Created job on Elance for that.
Reviewed the edited episode 2 of Ignite Alabama.
During one two-hour span, I was in Canva creating social media graphics for Episode 10 of Birmingham Shines, reviewing some licenses for items I’d purchased to make sure I was going to use consistent with the license, and reviewing possibilities for website hosting for Ignite Alabama. Trying to decided whether to make it an add-on domain or buy a separate hosting package.
Contacted SiteGround, the host for Birmingham Shines, to figure out why SSL for the site wasn’t showing up. Turns out I had activated the SSL but did not turn it on in WordPress.

Confirmed that episode 10 of Birmingham Shines published through the podcast feed and then added the graphics to blog post and published on the website. Periodically throughout the day, I shared the episode on the various social media channels.
Packed up my gear and had two interviews today: A 9:30 a.m. interview with Mark Kelly at The Abbey coffeeshop in Avondale and a 2 p.m. interview with Jennifer Skjellum at Innovation Depot.
In between the interviews, I sent emails related to several interviews and did some more research on membership site options and Rainmaker platform.
Purchased and installed the RSS Aggregator Pro plugin on Shinecast.tv and fiddled around with setting it up. Discovered that the theme I’m using for Birmingham Shines doesn’t automatically create an RSS feed for projects. The site RSS feed only pulls in blog posts. When I configured the plugin to pull in RSS feed for podcast I discovered I didn’t get the embeds for audio files. Not sure if that’s a setting thing on my part or a function of how the plugin works. I thought I’d configured to pull in media files. End result is that using the RSS Aggregator plugin will be useful but not, perhaps, for exactly the way I’d intended to populate my content on Shinecast.tv.
Did some research on setting up a custom RSS feed to pull in projects and found that requires some work on the PHP side that I’m not comfortable with right now. Contacted WPCurve about writing RSS feed code and inserting it in the site. Sounds like it would be more money than I can devote to that at the moment. Further research in support forum on ThemeTrust indicates it may be possible to do this with another plugin, so I found one and installed, but haven’t figured out yet how to configure it. WPBeginner also has a blog post on this, so I’ll continue to research.

8 a.m. interview at my house with Carla Jean Whitley for Birmingham Shines.
After that, I took care of some emails and miscellaneous business. Had a brief phone conversation with Dr. Whitney Hough of the Office of Technology Transfer at U of A about interviewing researchers and entrepreneurs coming out of UA.
Twitter exchange with Kyle & The Round House.
Got dressed and drove to Evonik Auditorium across town on Lakeshore Parkway to attend the afternoon pitches of round 2 of Alabama Launchpad competition.
Was very tired in the late afternoon–and hungry since I didn’t have lunch until 4–so I lay down to rest for an hour between 4:20 and 5:20 p.m.
Spent a few hours Friday night working on the Shinecast.tv website. Graphics are different than other themes, so the configuration is a bit funky. Not getting it done! May switch to a new theme, at least temporarily, until I have time to create a new set of graphics to load better into this site.
Looked into PodBean as a possibility for media hosting premium audio content that I can sell. That platform has a more affordable option for premium, subscription-based content.
The “you can’t do this” voice keeps popping into my head this week.

Awarded Birmingham Shines episode transcription job for 3 episodes to the transcriber I’ve been working with previously and released the funds for audio editing of episode 2 of Ignite Alabama.
Other than some early morning journaling and Elance work, I spent Saturday traveling to the farm and then hanging out with family and friends at my cousin’s wedding. Also did some beekeeping work.
In review, a big portion of this week was clearly spent working IN my business, not ON it and that probably explains why I’m having the anxiety cropping up. Must delegate, but it’s the catch-22 in bootstrapping a business: Maximizing use of limited resources to scale.
